“There’s no direction of where you should go, you find out which way you want to go and that becomes your own path,” says Tetsu “TET” Nishiyama, “we all do.” Before starting his DIY-inspired apparel brand, FPAR aka Forty Percent Against Rights, in 1996, TET came up skating and going to punk shows in Tokyo. Reflecting the defiant, guerrilla ethos he shared with punks and skaters, TET built FPAR to subvert the media and fashion industries for his own messages. Since then he’s gone on to create brands like WTAPS and DESCENDANT, but he continues to maintain a connection to his roots with FPAR.
TET calls the FPAR Dunk High a “customization” rather than a new design. It brings together a classic Dunk silhouette with FPAR's legendary eye for design aesthetic. FPAR is known for the use of simple words and phrases, the FPAR Dunk High has the phrases “Don’t Follow Me” and “I’m Lost Too” on the left and right Swooshes, respectively, echoing TET’s call to follow your own path. The shoe debuts at the Tokyo boutique, 813, alongside new gear from TET’s other brands. 300 pairs of the FPAR Dunk will be available at the 813 launch with 70 of those being Friends and Family exclusives in a specially designed box and some Japan-only apparel designed by TET.
