Like skateboarding, the Cortez has inextricably linked to Southern California street culture from the jump. 50 years and more than 700 iterations later, the Nike Cortez remains one of the Swoosh’s most infamous shoes. Inspired by the Bill Bowerman design, the Nike BRSB takes cues from the Cortez’s iconic heritage and creates a new silhouette for skateboarding, redesigned from the ground up.
From the sawtooth sole pattern and perforated detailing, the BRSB throws it back to the original and adds technical performance enhancements starting with a unique vulcanized sole construction with a drop-in React foam midsole for cushioning and control. The wrapped toe and heel rubber gives a nod to the 1972 original with purpose and added durability. Along with extra layers of protection to the shoe’s ollie area, the BRSB offers a lightweight breathable synthetic leather and canvas construction, as a throwback to the Cortez’s innovative design. Considered design, classic color blocking, and an homage to heritage, the BRSB is the next evolution in vulc tech.
